Bugs, Weather, Springtime, and God
Dear Friends and Family,
I hope all is well in your world. We're doing fine here - just staying busy and anticipating springtime.
We had a few cold spells this winter but not cold enough to kill the insects. Our windshields are often covered with small dead bodies when we travel the roads of Texas. Maybe it's this way everywhere, but things in Texas seem to be larger and more prevalent. And, why is it that one large bug is always squashed right in the middle of the driver's view? I guess we'll never know.
Then there is the ever-changing Texas weather. It has been said that if you don't like the weather in Texas just wait a few minutes and it will change. This is true! I'm really not down on Texas weather, but it does cause one to wonder what each day will bring - do I need a jacket and warm pants or Capri's and sandals? The winds are extremely strong most of the time and there's no way to keep one's hair in place. Years ago I learned to go with the flow (or wind) and not be too concerned about this white mop on my head. All in all, I love our great state and its weird weather.
As you know, springtime is just around the corner. As I write this I'm aware that the naked trees surrounding us are beginning to clothe themselves in green. I can't wait to see them in their full attire. It will be a beautiful sight, as in years past. I love trees!
Speaking of trees, I often think of my beautiful north Georgia mountains. They are splendid looking in springtime with their many shades of green. And then there are the spectacular dogwoods, peach trees, pear trees, mountain laurels, rhododendrons and azaleas with their showy blossoms. Is there anything more beautiful than "my mountains" clothed in their Easter outfits? I don't think so.
We are not blessed with dogwoods in our part of Texas but God, in all His glory, has sprinkled beautiful bluebonnets and Indian paint brushes for our enjoyment. The wildflowers (seen in photos on this site) grow right here in our neighborhood. I took the pictures on my morning bike rides. I hope you enjoy seeing them.
I'd better close for now. I am in the midst of two in-depth Bible studies, plus studying Spanish at the college. I also need to do a few household chores and think about what I'll cook for dinner this evening. My days seem to have a pattern just like this world that God created for us to enjoy.
I'm reminded of God's words in Genesis 8:22:
"As long as the earth endures,
seedtime and harvest,
cold and heat,
summer and winter,
day and night
will never cease."
My response to this is, "Blessed be the name of the Lord!"
